DECTRIS Award 2022

News Teaser Dectris Award

DECTRIS award recognizes researchers who think outside of the box, both from academia and industry, and helps them share their findings with a broader audience at a scientific conference of their choice. This year, we are carefully optimistic and hope for many good scientific exchanges on site.

We invite all researchers using DECTRIS hybrid-pixel detectors in their work to share their unconventional and challenging experiment setups with us and get a chance to win CHF 1,000! Half of the prize money will be used for your participation at a scientific conference of your choice, where you will be able to present your work to your peers. The other half is for you to spend freely, but wisely (how else?). All sorts of applications are welcome: X-ray and electron crystallography, X-ray diffraction, X-ray spectroscopy, software and hardware development, and more. Both published and unpublished research can be submitted. To enter the competition, just hit the “apply now” button below. You will be asked to submit a short abstract (up to 500 words) about your work. Consider that the following elements will make your submission stronger:

  • An unusual experimental setup
  • An uncommon technique (or a combination of techniques)
  • Non-ambient conditions
  • An investigation of an exotic material
  • Novel approaches to data processing

Should you need some inspiration for writing, take a look at the previous DECTRIS award winners:

  • In 2020, Prof. Yu Shen Cheng presented his work on in situ structural analysis of metal-organic frameworks at the Advanced Photon Source.
  • Prof. Mirijam Zobel (2019) showed an innovative yet pragmatic approach to the experimental setup for collecting high-resolution Pair Distribution Function (PDF) data in a lab.
  • The first receiver of the DECTRIS award, Dr. Markus Osterhoff (2018) demonstrated a creative way of handling data.

We are looking forward to discovering your ideas!

Application

To apply for the DECTRIS award, go to the application form, complete it with your personal information, with details of your work (for example an abstract), and with a conference where you would like to present your work. Your chosen conference must take place during 2022.
Applications are due by April 15, 2022. Applicants will be informed of the decision by April 25, 2022.

Selection process

Submissions will be evaluated primarily based on their innovativeness. Other factors that are taken into account are the scientific, industrial, and technological impact, the collaborative spirit of the project, and the value of the chosen conference (interdisciplinarity, internationality, reputation).
The selection committee is composed of DECTRIS scientific staff: crystallographers, materials scientists, and former beamline scientists.

Stay safe and
